The first step is to choose your specific career path. Here at Florida Memorial University, we have three aviation majors.
We also offer two minors that you can obtain along with your main degree.

Florida Memorial University owns its own aircraft. A Cessna 172S equipped with a G1000. The aircraft is provided at a steeply discounted price for our students. The flight training is provided by our third-party provider Wayman Aviation Academy. This flight academy is conveniently located at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines which is less than 10 miles away.
There are many external scholarships available for qualifying students to pay for flight training. You can find them through aviation organizations such as WAI (Women in Aviation International), AHP (Alpha Eta Rho), OBAP (Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals), and many more!
Florida Memorial University provides scholarships to flight students who have demonstrated an ability and interest in flying. In addition to scholarships for tuition and through a partnership with American Airlines, scholarships are available for Instrument rating, Commercial Pilot rating, Certified Flight Instructor (instrument) and multi-Engine rating.
Private and alternative loans are also available through partnerships with Wayman Aviation Academy and American Airlines. These loans are usually interest deferred and students do not have to repay the loans until after graduating or exiting the program.
A Concentration in Air Traffic Control will provide the credentials needed to work with the Federal Aviation Administration. However, you must apply directly with the FAA to initiate employment. Upon hiring, the FAA will offer the additional training necessary to obtain certification as an Air Traffic Control Specialist.

There are no age requirements to obtain a degree.
To become a pilot, a person must be 16 years old to fly an aircraft solo and 17 years old to obtain a private pilot certificate. You can keep flying as long as you are able to obtain a medical certificate.
To become an Air Traffic Controller, you must be 30 or under before the closing date of the application with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Yes, international students can become FAA pilots as well. You will have to follow Transportation Security Administration Guidelines (TSA) to register as an alien flight student. The flight school can assist you with this process.
After you have been accepted into FMU’s aviation program, you will have to register for courses by seeking out your freshman advisor.
