QEP – Writing with Pride

The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is an important component of the reaffirmation of accreditation process as required by the SACSCOC. The University must develop and implement a QEP every ten (10) years, and our current QEP is titled “Writing with Pride”.

The QEP “Writing with Pride” is Florida Memorial University’s commitment to enhancing instruction and experiences for the improvement of student learning and academic success.  Academic Quality and Student Success  are two key principles of our “Ascension to Excellence” Strategic Plan – “Create a student-centric environment where everyone is responsible for student success and students have rich learning and transformative experiences”.

The focus of Florida Memorial University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Writing with Prideis to improve writing skills, establish a culture of writing, and improve student success.

FMU Writing with Pride has three coordinated phases:

  1. Introductory Stage: College Writing I and II, and 100 level courses in the General Education Program focus on teaching and developing writing skills.
  2. Reinforcing Stage: Writing competencies reinforced in specific undergraduate courses within major areas of study.
  3. Mastery Stage: Writing competencies applied in a Mastery Level activity (Senior Project/Capstone Courses).

The goal is to help students improve their written communication skills during the early stages of matriculation which will enhance writing competencies in the upper-level courses, graduate school and career/workplace.
