The Office of the Dean of Students partners with parents and family members so students can have the best support system possible. Here’s some basic information about how those partnerships work for the good of students.
In case of a student hospitalization or emergency, a parent or designated emergency contact will be contacted by the Office of the Dean of Students. During this phone call information might be limited. However, the staff member will provide a general account of the incident, the hospital where the student was taken, and the contact information for the hospital. Our staff will remain in contact with you to gather details and coordinate university resources as necessary.
Each student is required to register emergency contact information with the university through Student Accounts. As parents and family members, you are unable to access or update this information. Therefore, we ask that you work with your student to ensure the information provided is accurate.
The Office of the Dean of Students should be contacted when your student does not sound like themselves. This can include, but is not limited to, times of extreme stress, academic trouble, family issues that affect the student’s ability to concentrate on his/her academic endeavors and health problems and emergencies. If any of these issues arise, our office can be contacted Monday thru Friday from 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. at (305) 626-3722. If it is before or after these hours, please contact the FMU Campus Safety Department at (305) 626-3771.
Our office also works diligently to protect student privacy so some information may not be readily available.
Parents/guardians of students under the age of 21 may be notified when a student is found responsible for violating the FMU Policy on Alcohol and Other Drugs if any of the following occur:
