MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The streak is over! Florida Memorial dominates against Ave Maria on homecoming, complete the season sweep on the Gyrenes and ending its seven-game skid (25-23, 28-26, 26-24).

The first set was a close battle between the Sun Conference rivals. FMU proceeded to outscore Ave Maria 6-3 to win their first set since Oct. 4.

Set two proved to be a tight battle that went to extra points. However, tied at 26-26 Caroline Souza produced a kill and an ace in succession to ignite the FMU Wellness Center and give the Lions the 28-26 win.

Set three was another nail biter. Tied at 24-24, a service error from Webber and an ace by Talia Gunter got the job done and handed the Lions the 3-0 sweep over the Gyrenes.

Souza led the team in kills with 11 and aces with four while teammate Maria Rodriguez led the team in assists with 23. Olivia Dodd produced a team-high with 16 digs while teammate Rafaela Nogueira added eight kills in addition to Bethania Barreto who added seven.

The win moves FMU to 4-9 on the year and 2-7 in conference play, both wins coming against the Gyrenes.

The Lions return to action Wednesday, October 25 where they’ll travel to West Palm Beach to take on Keiser. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center.
