United Way Miami

UpSkill Miami: New skills, new opportunities

The Construction Trades Program at Florida Memorial University includes an electrical component in collaboration with United Way Miami to help create pathways and opportunities for those with an interest in the electrical trades through their UpSkill Miami workforce development initiatives.

For more than 144 years, Florida Memorial University has provided students with educational opportunities that otherwise would not have been available. As South Florida’s only historically Black university, and one of the State’s oldest academic institutions, FMU has a long history and commitment to the free exchange of ideas and the pursuit of knowledge.

This partnership with United Way Miami will help to expose program participants to various electrical-related career pathways that will lead to direct placement, work experiences, job shadowing, apprenticeship/internship, mentorship, and/or access to on-the-job training opportunities.

UpSkill Miami fosters strategic collaborations, bringing together underserved populations, training providers and employers in Miami-Dade County. The fund serves to upskill and reskill the local workforce, offering them training, support and employment opportunities in high-demand industries.
