Certificate Program In Construction Trades

FMU’s Construction Trades Program

The Construction Trades Program at Florida Memorial University is a grant-funded project launched in 2021 in collaboration with the Miami Dolphin Social Impact Committee and the Lennar Foundation. In 2023, United Way Miami became a contributing partner. The grant directly responds to stimulating, enabling, and increasing the economic capability in underserved and underprivileged communities in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties to serve participants ages 17 to 70 through six 16-week training cycles.

Upon completion, trainees receive the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 10 and 30 safety certification for the construction industry, the Electrical Level I craft credential, and a completion certificate from FMU and ABCI.

FMU has engaged with local industry leaders, employers, craft trade organizations, unions, and community agencies to include MCO Construction, the National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC), Dozier Construction, Messam Construction, Broward County Minority Builders, Miami Community Ventures, Coastal Construction, Milwaukee Tools, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Fort Lauderdale Port Authority, Miami-Dade County Action Human Services Department, Greater Miami Job Corps, and Career Services South Florida.
