The Refreshing

The Refreshing is our Sunday service aimed at lifting the spirits of students, staff and faculty members each week. Its purpose is to provide support on Sundays to our university community so that believers may be strengthened through the Word of God. The Susie C. Holley Religious Center aims to be the spiritual center of university life through it pastoral care, teaching and proclamation ministry. The chapel stands on the premise of Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”

The primary goal in the coming year is to make the gospel known, to help students have a place to express their faith, and to provide a robust schedule of programmatic offerings that maximize our effort to make the holistic development of students important.

The scriptures are replete with the concept refreshing: “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint” (Jeremiah 31:25). Isaiah 40:29 says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” John 4:14 says, “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” So, the idea of a time for refreshing is consistent with the Word. Our hope is that the Susie C. Holley Religious Center will become a place where refreshing happens weekly.

A Special Prayer Time will be on Fridays on the lawn. This prayer time will consist of praise through song and prayer for the university community. This special time will be open to the entire University – students, staff, faculty and administration. This time will aim to inspire a commitment to faith. Florida Memorial is a home to its residential students and a place where significant portions of time are spent by staff, faculty and administration.

The Susie C. Holley Chapel seeks to provide a platform for the skills of its entire community to present is God-given talents or praise singing, presentation the dance, spoken word, charismatic prayer and proclamation.
