White House 2023 HBCU Scholar Recognition Program.

Sophomore, Kristyn Lyles, will represent Florida Memorial University in the White House 2023 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Scholar Recognition Program!

The White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity is a program that recognizes outstanding student leaders from the nation’s finest institutions. Students in the HBCU Scholar Recognition Program will serve as representatives of their respective institutions, communities and to the Initiative.

The Initiative will provide outreach and engagement opportunities as well as information and resources for the university. Lyles will participate in regional events, virtual convenings, and monthly master classes with the Initiative staff and other professionals from a wide range of disciplines across the HBCU spectrum.

“When the opportunity to apply for the HBCU Scholar Recognition Program emerged, I was immediately drawn to grasp this opportunity,” said Lyles. “As a participant in this program my objectives extend beyond academic and professional development. I am eager to develop lasting relationships both personal and professional. I am positive this will provide me with numerous opportunities to engage with diverse groups of individuals, which will broaden my perspectives and enhance my communication skills, thereby boosting my confidence as I navigate my future endeavors of establishing a career as a dermatologist, focusing specifically on African American skin.”

Lyles is a proud 2022 graduate from Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis, Ind., and is an example of academic excellence and service-oriented leadership. She has achieved honor roll status each year in high school and earned a spot on the FMU President’s List with a 4.0 GPA, she also serves as Student Ambassador and leads campus tours to prospective FMU students.

In recognition of her values and dedication to the student community, Lyles received the prestigious Value Award from FMU’s Student Affairs, which celebrates students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the core values of the institution and who make significant contributions to the university community. Her promotion of positivity has led to her selection as an upcoming Resident Assistant for the 2023-2024 academic year. Lyles stated that she’s looking forward to serving her fellow students, maintaining her academic excellence, and fostering a positive impact on her Lion community.
