FMU Construction Trades Program Graduation

On Monday, 56 students graduated from Florida Memorial University’s Construction Trade Program after successfully completing the14-week course.

The program, the first of its kind at a Historically Black College and University in Florida, has been generously funded by The Miami Dolphins Social Impact Committee and the Lennar Foundation over the past two years.

Jason Jenkins, who died on Aug. 27, 2022, at the age of 47 was the Senior Vice President of Communications with the Miami Dolphins and a supporter of FMU.

He facilitated support for the Certificate Program in Construction Trades to provide equitable access for minorities in South Florida through employment in construction.

Jenkin’s last visit to FMU was to attend the graduation ceremony of the trainees who completed the Construction Trades Program on June 6.

Former Miami Dolphin and philanthropist, Nat Moore, also was in attendance and greeted every graduate with a handshake and words of encouragement.

FMU’s Construction Trade Program is tuition free and is available to Miami-Dade and Broward County residents ages 18 and older with an interest in obtaining skills for a career in the construction trades.
