Construction Trade Program Hard Hat Graduation Ceremony held in the Lou Rawls, March 22, 2023.

On Wednesday, March 22, 32 students graduated from Florida Memorial University’s Construction Trade Program after successfully completing the14-week course.

The program, the first of its kind at a Historically Black College and University in Florida, has been generously funded by the Miami Dolphins Social Impact Committee and the Lennar Foundation over the past two years.

The Keynote Speaker for the Hard Hat Ceremony was Christopher A. King, who is the grandson of the legendary Blues and Rock n’ Roll icon B.B. King.

King is an international businessman, motivational speaker, celebrity fashion stylist and human rights advocate. When it comes to giving back to the world, King is unmatched in his own right. He recently received the Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award from the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, for his tireless efforts in uplifting and building high-functioning community initiatives. King is a graduate of Albany State University, an HBCU, with a Bachelors in Computer Information Systems. He’s a United States Marine Corps Veteran with four combat tours under his belt.

During Wednesday’s ceremony he expressed how their completion of the Construction Trade Program is the steppingstone to many great opportunities to come.

FMU’s Construction Trade Program is tuition free and is available to Miami-Dade and Broward County residents ages 18 and older with an interest in obtaining skills for a career in the construction trades.

A total of 201 students have graduated from the FMU Construction Trade Program since its inception.
