The annual Martin Luther King Holiday Observance has deep significance for Florida Memorial University.

It’s a time to celebrate, commemorate, and reflect on the life and legacy of a man who was committed to the promise of equality for all people.

Last week, Florida Memorial University hosted the second annual Bishop Victor T. Curry MLK Prayer Dinner in the Smith Conference Center.

Nearly 200 attended the event where the message of service was clear.

There was a video presentation spotlighting the volunteer work of FMU’s students under the leadership of Dr. Jamila Jackson at the Miami Rescue Mission; leadership and service awards were presented to Dr. Evalina Bestman, Khalid Mirza, and Lamar Johnson; and FMU received a $25,000 check from the Bishop Victor T. Curry Scholarship Fund.

The evening’s keynote speaker was Dr. Walter T. Richardson, Pastor Emeritus, Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.
