International First Time Freshman Students

A student who has never been admitted to and enrolled in a degree program at Florida Memorial University nor any other post-secondary institution of higher education is considered a First Time Freshman student. This also includes dual enrollment students who have not yet graduated from high school. Florida Memorial University utilizes a holistic approach to admission which includes academic history, extracurricular activities, volunteer service and an optional admission essay.

All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations.

To be considered “certified,” documents should be true copies that are signed and dated by an educational official familiar with academic records. Any translated record should be literal and not an interpretive translation. Documents signed by a notary or other public official with no educational affiliation will not be accepted.

If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required.

  1. Language proficiency for students with a first language other than English.
    Official English Language Proficiency results are required of all international applicants whose native language is not English. The following are the minimum scores required for admission to the University, although some departments require higher scores at the graduate level:
    Internet based TOEFL (IBTOEFL): 80
    Paper based TOEFL (TOEFL): 550
    International English Language Testing System (Academic IELTS): 6.5
    Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 77
    Pearson test of English (PTE): 55
    Duolingo: Undergraduate: 105
    Duolingo: Graduate: 110
    These scores are considered official only when they are sent directly to the Office of Admissions from the testing agency, and are not valid after two years.
  2. Finances
    Florida Memorial University is required by U.S. federal regulations to verify the financial resources of each applicant prior to issuing the Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or DS-2019). If granted admission to the University, an email with instructions on how to complete the online Declaration of Finances form will be sent from the Office of Admissions. You will provide information verifying your financial support (bank statements, award letters, scholarships, etc.). FMU requires proof of financial support for each year of study and demonstrated availability of funds for the length of your academic program.

U.S. federal grants and loans are not awarded to international students. However, student may be eligible for institutional scholarships. Funding is limited and qualified applicants must apply by the priority deadline of December 1st of each academic year to be eligible for awarding.
