Dr. Michelle Witherspoon has acquired several degrees in a plethora of disciplines: a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership and Education with a specialization in Higher Education Administration, Master of Arts in Communication Studies, and Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Theater. Dr. Witherspoon has existing publications in academic databases and reputable scholarly journals, promoting the research movement geared towards academic integrity.
She is known in the academic community for coining the term “contemporary cheating,” which her work has been cited by novice academicians in several theses and dissertations located in the ProQuest database. In addition to presenting at professional conferences such as the American Educational Research Association and the Tupac Shakur Collection Conference, Dr. Witherspoon has the following certifications: Dissertation Mentor, Research and Scholarship, Publishing and Copyright Infringement, Critical Thinking, Oral Defense Strategies, Purpose and Problem Statements in Research, and Quantitative and Qualitative Research Designs. Dr. Witherspoon’s community involvement includes memberships in professional organizations like the National Communication Association, Florida Communication Association, National Association of Professional Women, American Association of University Professors, American Educational Research Association, American Communication Association, just to name a few.
Currently, Dr. Witherspoon has taught courses in entertainment, communication, leadership, and education at the collegiate level for over sixteen years. As an Assistant Professor of Communication, Dr. Witherspoon has been providing instruction at Florida Memorial University for almost a decade. It has been a pleasurable experience because most students have been extremely eager to learn and ready to apply these communication skills to their lives and future careers. Pedagogically and philosophically, learning should be enjoyment (as outlined as a major objective in the syllabus); and, gratification is gained from witnessing intellectual growth in FMU students. As an educational leader in higher education, her ultimate mission is to create “transformational” experiences in the academic environment.
