A native of San Francisco (Bay Area), California, Dr. Kimya Dawson-Smith has worked in the international field of English as a Second Language for more than 17 years. She has traveled extensively and has worked with students from countries around the world including: Mexico, Brazil, China, France, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Africa, North Korea, etc. She is a member of the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA), the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), as well as the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Association (TESOL).

She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. She then went on to earn a Masters of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) at California State University (CSU) in Hayward, California. While a graduate student, she became an English as a Second Language Instructor at CSU. In 2006, she received her doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of New Orleans.

Dr. Dawson-Smith would later go on to become Director of International Students and Study Abroad Programs at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she founded and directed the institution’s first Center for Intensive English Language. From there, she founded the E. Strategy Group where has been successful with providing higher education institutions across the nation with expert guidance on the development of intensive English language programs.

Today, Dr. Dawson-Smith is Director of the FUTUREnglish Language Acquisition Center, where she brings more than 17 years of experience to the campus of Florida Memorial University.

Dr. Dawson-Smith is married and a proud mother of two young boys.
