Dr. Jeffrey Dean Swain is Dean of Campus Ministry at Florida Memorial University. He is an ordained and has more than two decades of experience in ministry. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College and Juris Doctor as well as Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. He is a native of Miami, Florida and the son of Prince Albert Swain, former Baptist Moderator of the Freewill Baptist Church, and Frances Swain.
He was called to ministry at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida. Early in ministry, Dr. Swain focused on teaching ministries throughout his ministerial career, developing curriculum for both youth and adult ministries. He served as Associate Minister, Sunday School Superintendent, and Minister of Christian Education for more than a decade. He has conducted numerous teacher development workshops throughout South Florida. Particularly, he worked with teaching the ministers to develop curriculum unique to the needs of local churches. He was ordained as a deacon at the age of eighteen (18) and continues to promote servant-leadership.
His mission at the Susie C. Holley Religious Center is to extend the reach of the Campus Ministry internally and externally. Internally, students, faculty and staff are part of the Susie C. Holley Religious Center university community; therefore, he seeks to provide ongoing pastoral support and care. Externally, the university’s Susie C. Holley Religious Center is a part of the Miami faith community and regularly partners local churches. Dr. Swain is also an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and has served as Director of the Centers for Academic Support & Retention.
