Florida Memorial University was founded in 1879 by the Baptist Home Mission and believes that a relationship with the divine is an essential component of personal development. Campus Ministry is housed at the Susie C. Holley Religious Center which is named after Susie C. Holley, former State of Florida Baptist Women’s President. The chapel is the spiritual center of our campus and provides our University family (students, faculty and staff) with opportunities for worship, Biblical study, prayer and counseling support through ecumenical and interfaith outreach.
Campus Ministry is the source of spiritual leadership at Florida Memorial University. The Campus Ministry is an interfaith experience, designed to support serve the campus, regardless of anyone’s faith choice or denomination. Spiritual growth is as important as academic and social development for all levels of campus life. Therefore, the chapel is open to the entire university family for worship, prayer, meditation, meetings, dialogue and panel discussions about issues of faith. We are a private university which has the freedom to promote the free exercise of faith as part of one’s daily life.
The mission of the Campus Ministry is to establish God’s presence at every level of our university. The Dean of Campus Ministry is also campus pastor and performs a variety of official tasks, including leading worship, memorial recognitions, hospital visitation, counseling and hosting major university events such as Fall Convocation, Founders’ Day and Baccalaureate. The Dean’s mission is to build strong relationships with throughout the campus and encourage family members not to neglect their spiritual awareness and growth. As a university ministry, we are also mindful of our interfaith responsibility to nourish all students, faculty and staff, regardless of their beliefs.
The entire University family and the community are invited to participate in the Campus Ministry. Student ministers are invited to become members of the Chapel Ambassadors. Since the chapel is the campus church, it is open to all students to display their skills in music, dance, poetry, hospitality, and leadership. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Jeffrey Dean Swain, Dean of Campus Ministry at 305-626-3674 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
