Re: COVID-19 Update

Let me express how thankful I am to each and every member of our FMU family for your commitment and dedication. Providing a safe environment to keep our students learning and growing is our priority. Our goal is to get students across the finish line and be successful. Faculty and professional staff play a critical role in achieving this goal. It has taken everyone’s collective efforts to persevere through a challenging semester, and for this I am grateful. We have launched our S.P.R.E.A.D. Lion Pride campaign (Sanitize, Protect, Respect, Educate, and Distance), reaffirming our commitment to our community’s safety. Please read below for this week’s update.

Testing Update
You can view our COVID-19 Dashboard anytime for the most recent results of our campus testing. As a reminder, all students, faculty, and staff on campus must be tested every two weeks. Rapid testing is available to all students on campus every Monday and Thursday, with results within 15 minutes. The Jessie Trice Mobile Unit is available for testing on Thursdays between 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., with results sent within a few days.

Academics and Student Housing
As we rapidly approach the holiday season and the end of our Fall semester, I encourage our students to remain laser focused on your educational success. Faculty and staff, you are asked to be sure that we are doing all possible to help our students finish strong.

All students must officially check out of the residence halls by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, unless they have received prior approval from the Division of Student Affairs. Students should continue to monitor their FMU email from the Division of Student Affairs for additional instructions.

Registration for the Spring 2021 semester is now open, and we encourage students to register before they leave campus for the break. We will provide a free WiFi Hot Spot to the first 100 students who register for Spring, clear the business office, complete their graduation paperwork (if eligible), and complete the 2021–22 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by logging in to www.studentaid.gov.

Technology Update
We are working diligently to improve the WiFi situation by providing Hot Spots to help increase connectivity. We look forward to the full implementation of our new technological systems that will allow us to provide an automated infrastructure and wired campus environment.

COVID-19 Website
We have updated our COVID-19 website to bring you the latest relevant information. Be sure to visit https://www.fmuniv.edu/coronavirus for messages to students, the most recent travel advisories, Frequently Asked Questions, and more.

As a community, we are rising to the occasion, and will come out of this situation stronger than ever before.
