Re: University COVID-19 Update

As we enter the month of Thanksgiving, I would like to give thanks to our FMU family for your diligence in keeping our community safe. We have seen great strides with students, faculty, and staff adhering to our S.P.R.E.A.D. Lion Pride campaign (Sanitize, Protect, Respect, Educate, and Distance), and taking the health and well-being of your fellow Lions seriously. Please read below for this week’s update.

Testing Update
Please remember, all students, faculty, and staff on campus must be tested every two weeks. Rapid testing is available to all students on campus every Monday and Thursday, with results within 15 minutes. The Jessie Trice Mobile Unit is available for testing on Thursdays between 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., with results sent within a few days. You can view our COVID-19 Dashboard anytime for the most recent results of our campus testing.

Academics and Student Housing
Students, as we approach the end of the Fall semester, it is critical you concentrate on a strong finish, with an eye toward excellence. Our faculty and staff are here to help with anything you need to cross the finish line successfully.

All students must officially check out of the residence halls by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, unless they have received prior approval from the Division of Student Affairs. Notifications were sent to students who submitted a request for an Extended Stay on Monday, November 2. Monitor your FMU email from the Division of Student Affairs for additional instructions. You can also find recent Messages to Students here.

Please take this opportunity to register for the Spring 2021 semester before leaving campus for the break. We will provide a free WiFi Hot Spot to the first 100 students who register for Spring, clear the business office, complete their graduation paperwork (if eligible), and complete the 2021–22 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by logging in to www.studentaid.gov. (Please note, the WiFi Hot Spots will be distributed upon return to campus for the Spring semester.)

Safety is the number one priority for our student-athletes, faculty, and staff, as well as all members of The Sun Conference. All athletic activities are currently suspended, with the exception of men’s and women’s basketball. At this time, no fans are permitted to attend games on campus. This includes the FMU community (students, faculty, and staff). You can find our live streams for home and away games on www.fmuathletics.com.

Travel Advisories
As students are preparing to leave campus for the break, if you are traveling internationally, be sure to check the latest travel advisories by country on our updated COVID-19 website. Most countries have specific protocols you must follow regarding testing and quarantine upon arrival. We encourage you to continue getting tested biweekly at home, if easily accessible, as all students will need to provide negative test results within 72 hours of arrival on campus.

Employee Assistance Program
As a reminder to faculty and staff, should you need support services, they are available through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). To learn more about the Lincoln Financial EmployeeConnect program, visit www.guidanceresources.com or call 888-628-4824.

Our priority remains providing a quality education while keeping all members of our community safe. Thank you for all you are doing to help us meet this goal in such rapidly changing times. Keep on roaring and continue to S.P.R.E.A.D. Lion Pride and Stop COVID-19.
