Message from the Director

The Centers for Academic Support & Retention (CASR) is a Freshman Center for Success. While providing a comprehensive learning community, we ensure that students are immersed in holistic academic services designed to complement the scholarly services of our faculty. Boasting one of the most diverse staff groups, our Student Success Advocates are versed in the curriculum required to earn a degree. Committed to the persistence of new and transferring students by providing a comprehensive First (and Second?) Year Experience program, including academic support services, we are the University’s Academic Success Center.

The CASR provides academic and college success support in the following areas: College Placement Testing, Summer Bridge Programs, New Student Orientation, Class and Degree Selection, Fall Convocation, Free Tutoring, Peer Tutoring, Advising, Disability Services, Lyceums, Religious Enrichment, Academic Standing and Early Intervention.

CASR is a team of advocates, Math, Reading and Writing Coaches whose sole interest is the success of our students. With over 100 years of combined experience, our students receive the best customer service and attention to the detail of graduation. Persistence is our number one goal.

During the period of transition from high school to college, students face challenges; but at FMU they are never alone. They have a network of academic advisors, orientation leaders, mentors, peer tutors and other resources available to help make the transition easy.

Additionally, our goal is to empower our students with the leadership skills necessary to take control of their future. Through our enriching experiences to help them explore the larger world, engage in culturally diverse activities and realize their own potential, students are given a holistic education that makes great citizens of the world. Academic success depends upon self-discovery and CASR will guide students toward building good character, exceptional academic habits and confidence in their abilities.
