2017 Employee Recognition


Hamid Ajirnia


Mr. Ajirnia has served Florida Memorial University as the Athletics Trainer since 2011 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Science. When asked what it meant to be recognized for employee appreciation month, Mr. Ajirnia responded by saying “It’s great feeling knowing that I’m being recognized for what I’ve been doing at FMU. Not only helping students, but faculty and staff members….”

Sylvia Bistolfi


Sylvia has served Florida Memorial University as an Administrative Assistant since 2011. Currently, Sylvia provides administrative support to the Information Management Technology and Facilities departments while also serving as an Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration. Sylvia holds an associate degree from Broward College. She is inspired by the FMU students who keep going through whatever trials they are experiencing. She enjoys reading, loves to go paintball shooting and enjoys being with her family.

Cesar Dominguez


Cesar has served Florida Memorial University as a PC technician since 2011. He has earned both a Microsoft Professional and A+ Computer certification. His family is the most important thing in his life and when asked about his contribution to the FMU family, Mr. Dominguez said that “My role directly impacts students because we help students with every technology need. We are here to make sure they have everything they need to do their jobs and work in their classes.”

Dr. Willie Hobbs


Dr. Willie Hobbs has served Florida Memorial University since 2011 and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor of English. Dr. Hobbs holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and African American Literature.

Dr. Max Orezzoli


Dr. Orezzoli has served Florida Memorial University since 2011 and currently holds the rank of Assistant Professor of Sociology. Dr. Hudson holds a Ph.D. in Sociology. He has thoroughly enjoyed his years at FMU and says, “FMU students have taught me more than I have taught them. They have taught me to have more humility, sense of purpose, to be less selfish and more giving to a greater cause. I think FMU in general and FMU students have taught me to be better individual.”

Dr. Michael Elliott


Dr. Elliott, Assistant Professor of Chemistry who has served Florida Memorial University since 2006, loves his students and has a good relationship with them. When asked about his impact on them, he said that he loves to see his students succeed after graduation and knowing about their accomplishments. Some of his students have gone off to be dentists, doctors and so much more. Dr. Elliott feels that if he has helped to develop their love for science, then he has accomplished what he has set out to do. Dr. Elliott holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

Dr. Marilyn Sherman


Dr. Sherman is motivated by the students who inspire her to do more on campus. She feels that her students make her work harder to try and find the best ways to teach.

Katrenia Blue


Katrenia has served Florida Memorial University in various capacities since 2001. She currently serves as the Student Accounts Manager. She love her work at FMU and when asked how it felt to recognized for her service, she said “It feels good to be recognized for your accomplishments, especially for doing what you love (servicing young people). It’s my job and I enjoy doing it…!”

Natalie Knight


Natalie has served Florida Memorial University as a Secretary for Alumni Affairs since 2001. Natalie is a proud Florida Memorial University alum. When asked how it felt to be recognized for her years of service at FMU she said, “I never count the years that I have been here. I enjoy it so much. I just enjoy being a part of this university and it feels like I am supposed to be here...Being recognized is just another reason to say I am proud to be here at FMU.”

Dr. Robert Steinhoff


Dr. Steinhoff has served Florida Memorial University since 2001 and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor of Computer Science (with tenure). Dr. Steinhoff holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science.

Melvin White


Mel has served Florida Memorial University since 2001 and currently holds the rank of Assistant Professor of Music. Mr. White is also appointed as the Interim Chairperson Interim Chairperson for the Visual and Performing Arts department and Director of the Ambassador Chorale.

Dr. Rose Thevenin


Dr. Thevenin has served Florida Memorial University since 2001 and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor of History (with tenure).

Rachel Turner


Rachel has served Florida Memorial University since 2001 as the Executive Assistant to the University President. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Office Management.

Dr. Carlos Canas


Dr. Carlos Canas, Associate Professor of Mathematics (with tenure) has served Florida Memorial University since 1991. Currently, Dr. Canas is also the Director of Institutional Research at FMU. He holds a Doctorate of Arts in Mathematics and has completed more than 20 certifications in distance learning education, distance learning accreditation, critical thinking, and education pedagogy.

Dr. Robert Labadie


Dr. Labadie has served Florida Memorial University since 1991 and currently holds the rank of Professor of Business Administration (with tenure). Dr. Labadie holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration.

Lorenzo Reed


Lorenzo has served Florida Memorial University in various capacities since 1991. He currently serves as an Area Coordinator in the Residential Life department while also offering diligent support as the President’s Driver.

Trevor Walker


Trevor has served Florida Memorial University as the Duplication Center Manager since 1991.

Carla King-Crockett


Carla is the Advisor Coordinator for Freshman Studies, a position she has held since 1986. Carla holds a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology.
