Department Overview

The International Student Services Department is an exciting and innovative extension of the Office of Admissions. This Department is literally touching and shaping the world.

Department and Student Responsibilities

The first responsibility of the International Student Department is to make certain that every international student remain in "status". Meaning that each student must be classified as a full-time student, taking 12 or more hours per semester. Each international student must have an F-1 visa upon entry into the United States to begin their education.

Upon entry into the United States each international student must have a copy of page 3 and 4 of the I-20 document , the I -94 arrive departure record card, their passport/visa, any other pertinent document and identification such as a driver's license, etc.

Once an international student arrives on campus he/she must report to the Office of Admission to see the International Students Advisor. It is essential that the International Student Department have a copy of all the international students' documentation to put in the student's file to keep accurate account of all documents pertaining to INS.

Recruiting

Furthermore, The International Student Department is responsible for recruiting international students, being a trustworthy voice for international student needs ,and facilitating workshops and activities to enhance the international students stay at Florida Memorial University.

It is the function of the international student department at Florida Memorial University to seek students from around the world to continue to broaden and diversify the Florida Memorial University community.

Activities

This department councils, advises, and assists international students with their special needs. Each semester there will be a thorough orientation of campus and American life, as well as workshop on immigration and INS regulations. We will also host cultural activities, special meetings and events.

International Student Union

In addition, this department oversees the International Student Union, which is the umbrella for all the other International Organizations on campus.

Every international student will feel welcomed and embraced long before their arrival to Florida Memorial University, through Pen Pals and other friendly correspondences between current and prospective international students.
