Campus Emergency Plan

TO: The University Family
FROM: Karl S. Wright, Ph.D., President
DATE: April 25, 2007

As you may know, the U.S. Homeland Security Agency has placed the nation on “heightened alert.” As a result, and in view of the University’s close proximity to Opa-locka Airport, I have asked that a committee review and revise the Campus Emergency Operations Plan to address any situations arising from the threat of chemical, biological, hostage or other emergencies.

Please be advised that the Smith Conference Center will be established as the primary assembly and shelter area in the event of the need for an emergency evacuation or related scenarios. Please review the attached plan carefully and retain the information for use should the need arise.

I am hopeful that it will not become necessary to implement these plans/preparations. However, the safety of our students, faculty and staff is of the utmost importance, and this plan intends to address that issue.
