Parent Meeting & Advisory Parent Meeting

April 12, 2008

Mr. Coney opened the meeting with appreciation of parent participation this morning at 10:15 am.

The following business was discussed

  • Parents are encouraged to work with their sons at home and participate in their activities. Mr. Coney works very hard to make sure the KINGS have every opportunity to have them achieve academically during the yearly sessions. Please make sure your KING bring their homework to the sessions so the counselors can assist them if needed. There are college students that are helping this year.
  • The Prayer Breakfast has been changed due to problems trying to secure the building for that date. It has been rescheduled for May 31, 2008.
  • A luncheon for the Seniors KINGS is scheduled for May 24, 2008.
  • The next parent meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2008 where the $200.00 summer application fee can be paid. Cash Only.
  • During 2008 Spring Break week the KINGS attended a Tour of some colleges such as University of Florida, FAMU, Florida State, University of Central Florida and Bethum Cookman.
  • Mr. Coney asked that all KINGS submit their progress report and/or report card to him. You can fax it at 305-626-3712.
  • All seniors that will graduate this year, Mr. Jerry Clervaux has scheduled meetings with the seniors and parents to discuss items such as financial aid, scholarships and properly filling out applications. This will benefit the seniors to get started early for financial aid. Although these meetings are very important the attendance of the seniors are low. If participated doesn’t increase, the meetings will be cancelled.

Application fee this summer session is $200.00.

  • The summer program begins June 15 th 2008 and will end July 19 th 2008. The KINGS are asked to have the following documentation for the Summer Session:

    Update application must be on file
    Birth Certificate
    Social Security Card
    Immunization record
    Physical


The classes this year will change to incorporated fresh and exciting avenues that the KINGS will appreciate. Such classes that will be offered are: self development, test taking skills, test anxiety, computer skills and how to start your own business.

New and old members should keep in mind that they must attend the tutoring session that are offered during the year. Members are awarded a spot for the summer program by attending these tutoring sessions. This is not just a summer program. Also, parents should attend the parent meetings and participate in fund raising activities.

The KINGS will be doing community services this year also.
