Academic Software Support

Florida Memorial University maintains smart classrooms in all teaching buildings to support the infusion of technology into the classroom. Smart classrooms include an overhead LCD projector controlled by an administrative workstation, a presentation screen and computer workstations for each student. All workstations use the Windows XP© operating system and have Microsoft Office 2003© installed. All devices are connected to the Internet.

To insure that smart classroom workstations are operable each day, a special software package has been installed in each workstation to daily re-configure the machines back to their original state. This insures that each student is provided with the necessary tools for each class. Students should save their work to a floppy disk or copy it to their student shared folder at the end of each class. As an alternative, students can email their completed assignments to their Florida Memorial University email account for later access.

In addition, smart classroom workstations have a variety of supplemental course software installed for specific courses in each discipline. Instructors are requested to contact the Director of Academic Computing in IMT at least eight weeks prior to the start of a semester to initiate the processes that are necessary to insure that the required technology is available for their course. Requirements for the installation of course software in a specific classroom include, at a minimum, valid software licensing and the scheduling of the installation with the technicians.

The assignment of smart classrooms for courses is managed by the Registrar’s Office. To schedule a smart classroom, contact the Registrar’s Office directly.
