WHAT ARE SHARED FOLDERS?
All Florida Memorial University academic units, administrative departments and employees may request a folder on the Florida Memorial University computer network where they can save files. These folders reside on a network server located in the IMT Department.
Each night, information in all folders is copied to tape and saved. This information is sent to the Florida Memorial University off-site recovery facility weekly. In the event that you delete a file residing on your folder, the IMT department is able to recover the information from the previous day.
WHO IS ABLE TO ACCESS SHARED FOLDERS?
Department “shared folders” are only accessible to those individuals assigned to that folder by their department manager. The manager may request read and/or update capability to each staff member.
For individuals, access is restricted to that individual and includes both update and read capability.
Access to the folder is by User Name and Password. The User Name and Password is the same as the employee’s User Name and Password to log-on to your Florida Memorial University Email Account. The folder will remain accessible indefinitely.
HOW MUCH INFORMATION CAN BE STORED IN MY SHARED FOLDER?
Departmental folder size is dependent on the needs of an individual department. Individual employee folders hold up to 10 MB of data, which is approximately equivalent to six floppy disks.
WHAT PROCEDURES DO I FOLLOW TO INITIATE A SHARED FOLDER?
Shared folders for both departments and individuals are handled on an individual basis by IMT. Please call the Helpdesk to request a shared folder and a member of the IMT staff will be assigned to assist you with initializing a shared folder for your department or an individual.
HOW DO I GET TO MY SHARED FOLDER ON THE FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY NETWORK?
After a shared folder has been created on an Florida Memorial University server, a PC technician is dispatched to the department or individual to initialize the shared folder to your computer. Once this has been completed, simply double-click on MY COMPUTER and access the folder as you would any other available drive on your personal computer.
HOW DO I RECOVER A DELETED FILE FROM MY FOLDER?
Files stored on shared folders can only be recovered if they were created or saved on the previous day. Current day information cannot be recovered.
To request a file recovery, call the Helpdesk and the consultant will request information needed to restore the file.
