What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid is money to help pay for your educational expenses, such as tuition and fees, room and board, and books and supplies.

There are two basic types of financial aid:

  1. Merit-based Financial Aid is “free” money, such as scholarships and grants, awarded for a variety of qualifications, regardless of your financial need.

  2. Need-based Financial Aid is awarded according to your actual need for financial assistance. It often takes the form of a loan, which must be repaid.

How to Apply
Do NOT wait for admission acceptance to apply for financial assistance. The earlier you apply the better.

If you plan to attend Florida Memorial in the fall, April 14th is the deadline for submitting your complete financial aid application to the Office of Financial Aid.

You must:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. It’s the first step in determining financial aid eligibility. The University’s school code is 001486.

  2. Submit all required and requested documents before the April 14th deadline. Document forms are available online. Required forms include the:
    • Students Aid Report
    • Florida Memorial University financial aid application
    • William D. Ford Loan request form
    • Federal income tax returns and/or other income verification forms

There are additional admission requirements and forms for international students.

  3. The amount of financial aid awarded is based on your:

    • Full-time, degree-seeking enrollment
    • Citizenship/permanent residency status
    • Maintenance of satisfactory academic progress

a)  Our Office of Student Financial Assistance will notify you of federal direct loan eligibility, the academic terms of the award period, and the amount to be borrowed.

b)  Successful William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan request forms will be mailed to you, and must be completed and returned.

c)   First-time borrowers must complete a loan entrance interview form before any funds can be disbursed.
