Financial Aid FAQs

1. What is the deadline to apply for financial aid for the summer?

The University priority deadline is April 15 each year. However, we process financial aid applications throughout the year.

2. Can I register if my financial aid file is not complete?

Yes, but you may not receive an official award that includes all eligible programs until your file is complete.

3. Do I have to be full- time to receive summer financial aid?

No. But, you must register for at least 6 credit hours during the first summer session you register to attend to receive most financial aid programs. The Pell Grant Program requires a minimum of 3 credits and most Scholarship Programs requires full-time status (12 or more credit Hours).

4. What is considered full-time enrollment during a summer session?

12 credit hours are considered full time for the summer session. (Example: Summer A= 6 credits; Summer B= 6 credits). In some instances, a student may elect to take 12 credits in one summer session, if approved by the Academic Advisor and financial aid is available.

5. How much financial aid can I receive for the summer?

The award amount of your financial aid is based on your enrollment status, classification (undergraduate or graduate), residency, program limits, and outside aid received, income/assets.

6. What forms must I complete to apply for summer financial aid?

Each student must complete the 2008/2009 FAFSA and the 2008/2009 FLMU Financial Aid application and the 2009/10 FAFSA and the 2009/10 FLMU Financial Aid application.

7. Do I qualify for a Summer Pell Grant?


Eligibility for Summer Pell will be based on your household income assets if you are independent and you and your parent’s income/assets if you are dependent. The University is waiting on an official ruling from the Federal Government reference the year round Pell Grant disbursement procedures.

8. How will I be notified of my award status?

The Financial Aid Office will be contacting you regarding your summer award In most instances, once you select your courses, stop the financial aid and if your Required application is complete; you will receive your award the very same day of your visit.

9. Do I have to reapply each year?


Yes. Application will be available January of each year.

10. What is Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)?


There are minimum requirements to maintain your continued financial aid eligibility. The SAP has three parts: qualitative, quantitative, and time frame. The qualitative standard requires that the student not be on academic suspension. The quantitative standard requires that the student successfully complete 67% of all attempted credit hours. The time frame standard requires that the student complete the degree program within a specified period.

11. If I have more than enough financial aid to pay my charges at Florida Memorial University, do I get the rest back?

Yes. You will receive your refund check no later than 14 days after your financial aid funds are posted to your account.
