The Ambassador Chorale

Mel White – Director

The Florida Memorial University Ambassador Chorale was formed under the direction of the late Professor Roosevelt Williams in 1976 with four eager members. It soon became known as the Chorale with class and a repertoire to fit any occasion. As the name implies, the Chorale is designed to officially represent the University and is responsible for at least five major functions per semester. Additionally, the Chorale serves as ambassador for recruitment and fundraising which extends from Florida to around the nation and more recently around the world.

The Ambassador Chorale has recently been reformatted so that, in addition to performing as an independent ensemble, it enjoys the accompaniment of the internationally renowned Florida Memorial University Steel Pan Band and the world famous Florida Memorial Jazz Band. This unique combination, often referred to as the “Lift Every Voice” Production Ensemble, has the ability to not only perform music in the traditional university choir mode, but to add the element of surprise and entertainment for the audience.

Currently, the Chorale has over 65 members selected by appointment who are dedicated to the task of reaching perfection as performers and where exemplary behavior and scholarship are expected and maintained. In 2004, after a gala New York performance at the Annual UNCF National Convention the Ambassador Chorale was invited to do a western European tour of Germany and Spain. This included performances at some of the most exclusive and elaborate venues in those countries. Since that time, members of the Chorale have traveled back to do annual holiday concerts in those areas and have brought an enormous amount of positive public relations for the University.
