Welcome to the foreign language program at Florida Memorial University!
Florida Memorial University offers students the opportunity of learning Spanish, French, and Chinese at a basic level and a Minor in Spanish or French starting at an intermediate level of proficiency. We have a study abroad program for different levels. Native speakers of foreign languages such as Spanish or French can take courses towards a minor that count as the language requisites for any other major. Being an accredited university, courses are transferable to any university in the US and abroad.
The objective of language classes is to help students master the linguistic aspect of Spanish and gain some understanding of the cultures entwined with the development of this language. We use a communicative approach to language learning which integrates the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. SPA 201 & SPA 202 are requisites for all majors as a foreign language.
We also offer classes on the culture and literature of Spain and Latin America in English. As the primary focus of these classes is content, students are free to write in Spanish or English for their final papers. Native Speakers of Spanish can take these classes or also advanced classes in Spanish. Please see our catalog.
