Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Management Information Systems (MIS) provides students with the skills and knowledge required for employment in computer and business industries.

MIS graduates have the flexibility of finding careers in any industry as programmers, systems analysts, business managers, technical support personnel, web designers, database administrators, network and security specialists, as well as other managerial positions.

Program Mission

The mission of the MIS program is to produce graduates who demonstrate both the managerial and technical expertise necessary to manage and control the information system resources of an organization.

Program Educational Objectives

The Management Information Systems program will produce graduates who, within a few years of graduation, will

(1) engage and provide leadership in managing information systems to confront the ever-changing environment of business organization;

(2) apply and communicate information systems knowledge and practice effectively and professionally and engage in lifelong learning experiences; and

(3) demonstrate strong ethical decision-making and a commitment to service to society and the Management Information Systems profession.

Student Outcomes

Each management information system graduate will demonstrate the following:
a. An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline

b. An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution

c. An ability to design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs

d. An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal

e. An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities

f. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences

g. An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society

h. A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, continuing professional development

i. An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practices

j. An understanding of processes that support the delivery and management of information systems within a business organization.
