The Department of Freshman Studies offers some of the first-level courses required in the Core Curriculum. The Department of Freshman Studies is the point of entry for all first year students and for transfer students who have not declared a major and/or are required to enroll in two or more pre-college level preparatory courses. Students who are required to take only one pre-college level course are co-advised in the Department of Freshman Studies and the degree-granting Department while that course requirement is being fulfilled. In its institutional role, the Department of Freshman Studies:
-
orients new students to the University
-
advises students during their tenure in the Department
-
instructs students in English, reading, and mathematics on both preparatory and college levels,
-
offers a college and life success seminar
-
oversees and monitors the progress of students
