"Lift Every Voice and Sing" was publicly performed first as a poem as part of a celebration of Lincoln's Birthday on February 12, 1900 by 500 schoolchildren at the segregated Stanton School.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1983, Barrington Irving spent his childhood in inner-city Miami, where he and his friends found little opportunity or incentive to get off the dangerous streets and pursue a professional career.
The Office of Public Affairs assists all academic departments in designing newspaper, television, and radio advertisements to promote the mission of the institution. The office develops tools to survey Florida Memorial stakeholders and use the information to develop marketing campaigns.
The office is also responsible for assisting university divisions and departments in developing commercials and other promotional and marketing materials. This office plays a lead role in the development of the university’s recruitment video and other multimedia marketing tools.
