Faculty & Staff Alert

It is important for faculty and staff to refer students who seem to need help. Your interest in students’ well-being can make an important difference in their life. It is best to approach the students first and meet with them privately to help minimize embarrassment and defensiveness .  Listen to the students carefully, express your concern, don’t rush to give advice, and recommend counseling from a therapist at the Center.  Offer to call for an appointment with the students, walk them over, use a referral form, or, at the very least, give them information on how to contact us.  The staff of the Counseling Center is subject to confidentiality guidelines, and we work within the ethical principles of confidentiality laws designated by the State of Florida.
