Roosevelt Richardson, Jr., has had more than 32 years of experience as a cross country, track and field and women’s basketball coach, beginning his career at Miami-Dade Community College-North. He has developed or assisted in the development of six track and field Olympians, including a co-world record holder, 33 NJCAA track and field All Americans, 10cross-country, and one of the top decathletes in the country. Richardson’s track and field teams have won conference and regional championships the junior college level as well as finishing as high as fifth place at the junior college Outdoor National Championships. His athletes have participated in the Pan American Games, British Commonwealth Games, and Sparticade Games in Moscow, Russia and have received a combined 116 athletic scholarships tosenior institutions.

Coach Richardson is now in his eight year at Florida memorial College. In that short period of time 19 members of his teams have become NAIA All Americans and 10 have become NAIA National Champions. Under his direction Ms. Brandy Dames became the first female All American and Ms. Sallie Green the first female National Champion in the history of Florida Memorial University.

Coach Richardson received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Grambling State University and his Masters of Arts Degree from University of Northern Colorado. He has received several prestigious honors and awards during his career, some of which are:

  • Selected as a starter for the International Carifta Games, 1976
  • Elected USA Florida Head Coach for Partners International Meets, 1982 and 1983
  • Inducted into USA Florida Track and Field Association Hall of Fame
  • Selected Florida Sun Conference Women’s Cross Country Coach of the year, 1999
  • Chosen Distinguished Gramblim State University Alumni, 1990

 

He has been married to Charlie Ann Richardson for 39 years. They reside in Miami, Fl
