Florida Sun Conference Men's Basketball Postseason Honors Announced

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The 2006-07 Florida Sun Conference Men's Basketball Awards were announced at the FSC tournament banquet on Friday evening on the campus of Northwood University which serves as host to this year's event beginning with Saturday's semifinal action starting at 6 p.m.
Second-year 6-4 guard Tramaine Stevens of Florida Memorial University captured the FSC Player of the Year honors averaging an NAIA DII leading 26.8 ppg, while adding 5.1 rebounds a contest.
Northwood, currently 23-7 overall and ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Division II national poll, are the top-seed in the tournament after finishing 9-3 in the league to capture regular-season champion honors and dominated the postseason honors with FSC Newcomer and Coach of the Year honors, as well as three All-FSC selections.
Legendary Northwood head coach Rollie Massimino captured FSC Coach of the Year honors leading the first-year program to the FSC regular-season crown. Best known for leading Villanova to the 1985 NCAA National Championship, Massimino brings with him over 40 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels to the Seahawk program. In 30 seasons as a collegiate coach, Coach Mass has posted a remarkable 538-398 record, ranking him 57th all time in wins among coaches with at least 10 years of experience at the NCAA division I level. His 538 career wins also make him one of only 17 coaches in NCAA history with more than 500 career victories and a national championship to his credit.
During his career, Massimino has collected numerous coaching accolades. Following the 1985 season, he was tabbed as the National Coach of the Year by both MacGregor Sporting Goods and Playboy Magazine. An eight-time Coach-of-the-Year honoree by various leagues, he was named the 1982 BIG EAST Coach of the Year following an 11-3 conference mark and a BIG EAST Tournament title game appearance.
Three of Massimino's players earned All-FSC honors led by 6-7 senior forward Cory McJimson who also claimed FSC Newcomer of the Year honors. McJimson, a native of Rialto, Calif. averaged 15.8 points and 7.4 rebounds and joins fellow Seahawks 6-5 junior forward Marvin Owens from Bridgeport, Conn. (14.9 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and 6-0 sophomore guard Baree Ward from Tacoma, Wash. (15.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg) on the All-FSC squad.
Warner Southern's Alex Castillo earned FSC Freshman of the Year honors, the 6-4 guard from Winter Park, Fla. averaged 10.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and shot 48.8 percent from the field.
