Men’s & Women’s Track and Field Team will travel to the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships
MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Florida Memorial University Men’s & Women’s Track and Field teams are set to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The event will take place on Thursday May 23, 2013 and run through Saturday May 25, 2013 on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University located in Marion, Indiana.

Florida Memorial to Host Sun Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. – The Florida Memorial University Track and Field Team will host its first Sun Conference Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Outdoor Championships at the world renowned Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida , from Sunday, April 21 to Monday, April 22. The meet, which is open to the public, kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Championships will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday with the women’s hammer and will continue through the men’s 4×800-meter run, which is scheduled to begin at 8:50 p.m. The Monday events begin at 9 a.m.

Staff: Florida Memorial Assistant Baseball Coach Bookie Nunez will direct the camp. The staff will be comprised of experienced college coaches and scouts, and former and current college players who will teach both fundamentals and techniques of hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, catching, base running and team play. Gear: All participants are required to bring their own gloves, pants, T-Shirts, hat and cleats.
Lunch: There will be a 30 minute break between the practice and game sessions for athletes to eat. Food will be on sale for purchase.
Details: The Showcase Camp: Players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills during live games, defensive workouts, batting practice, timed 60’s and instructional segments.
Michael Baptiste named to All-Conference First Team, All-Defensive Team

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 2012-13 Sun Conference Honor Roll was announced at the 2013 Sun Conference Tournament Banquet on Sunday evening on the campus of Northwood University. 14 players from eight Sun Conference squads were named to the All-Conference roster, while five players were selected to the All-Defensive Team and five individual awards were handed out by Sun Conference Commissioner Mark Pope.
Florida Memorial’s own Michael Baptiste picked up his first All-Conference nomination after averaging 12.8 points ,9.6 rebounds and 3 assist a per game in 2012-13. He also was named to The Sun Conference All-Defensive team.

Michael Baptiste Named Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Florida Memorial’s Michael Baptiste becomes the first Lion to earn Sun Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2012-13 season. Baptiste was chosen by the conference sports information directors.
The Lions pulled off a pair of upsets this past week, thanks in large part to Baptiste’s 18.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. He scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against #7 St. Thomas before scoring 26 points and recording 15 boards in a win against Southeastern.
Florida Memorial Upsets No. 7 St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Florida Memorial men’s basketball team won its biggest game of the season with a 71-68 upset over seventh-ranked St. Thomas (Fla.) on Wednesday night at The Fernandez Family Center. Florida Memorial used a tenacious defense and a balanced offense to steal the win.
After falling behind by nine, 14-5, over the first seven minutes of the game, FMU went on a 12-2 run over the ensuing 5:46 of the game to pull in front 17-16. FMU lead grew to as many as four, but St. Thomas would not back down and would response and end the half on a run of its own to tie the game up at 25-25 at halftime. The first half saw both sides not shoot well with St. Thomas connecting at a 37% (10-for-27) and Florida Memorial connecting at a 33.3% (10-for-30).
In the second half, St. Thomas mounted its largest lead 49-42 with 10:34 to play, but the Lions roared their way back from a seven-point deficit behind two big three’s by Antwan Baggs and Adam Braswell. St. Thomas would not go quietly and fought back and forth with Florida Memorial.
The shootout continued with six lead changes in the second half and with 40 seconds to go, St. Thomas made one of two free throw to cut the Florida Memorial lead to 68-66, however Adam Braswell came through at the charity stripe when it was needed most to seal the victory. Braswell knocked down a pair of foul shots to give the Lions a 71-68 lead and iced the game with 1.9 seconds remaining left
St. Thomas threw up a desperation heave at the buzzer that fell short. The victory for Florida Memorial is the first in two years against St. Thomas.
Adam Braswell led the Lions with 21 points three rebounds and three steals. Bryan Portillo had 13 points, 10 rebounds and one steal, Adrian White chipped in 13 points, while Michael Baptiste poured in 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 2, 2013, when they travel to Southeastern (Fla.) for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off.
Lions win big Conference game against Webber International University
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. –Florida Memorial University’s men’s basketball team got their second conference win of the season against Webber International University 74-71.With the win, the Lions snap a 3 game losing streak and move in to seventh place in the conference standing.
In the first half, Florida Memorial Lions and Webber International University Warriors exchanged basketball for the first five minutes of the game. Webber was able to make a run and stretch its lead to 5 points 17-12, but Florida Memorial were able to regroup and went on a run to take the lead at the half 37-32.
In the second half, both team offenses continued to exchange basket, with FMU leading as much as 11 points, with less than 7 minutes to go, but Webber International made a run and were able to cut the lead to 2 points but the Lions came back with a roar and made baskets down the stretch to win the game 74- 71. Florida Memorial out-shot Webber International 87.5 to 56.7 percent, while out-rebounding their opponent by a slim 26-25 margin. The Lions shot 43.8% from the three point line, while holding their opponent to 33.3% shooting from the three point line.
Bryan Portillo led a balance scoring attack for FMU with 18 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists. Adrian White chipped in 14 points to go along 3 steals while Antwan Baggs scored 11 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and Michael Baptiste poured in 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Florida Memorial University Lions will return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 19 2013, when they travel to Johnson and Wales University, Tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
Florida Memorial University Baseball to Hold Alumni Baseball Game on January 26
Florida Memorial University Baseball team will be holding its Alumni Baseball Game on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field. With the program heading in an exciting direction, Headed Coach Luis Zarzabal has invited all FMU baseball alumni to campus for the game.
The game will give alumni the chance to get back out on the field and showcase their skills, while having fun and playing the sport they love.
