Dr. Jeffrey Dean Swain is Dean of Campus Ministry at Florida Memorial University. He is ordained and has more than two decades experience in ministry. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College and holds Master of Science, Juris Doctor and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees. He is a native of Miami, Florida and the son of Prince Albert Swain, former Moderator of the South Florida B Conference of the Freewill Baptist Church. He was called to ministry at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida and has served as an associate in several ministries.
Dr. Swain has focused on teaching ministries throughout his ministerial career, developing curriculum for youth and adult ministries. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and Minister of Christian Education at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Miami for more than a decade and has conducted teacher development workshops throughout South Florida. Particularly, he worked with teaching the ministers to develop curriculum unique to the needs of local churches. He was ordained as a deacon at the age of 18 and continues to promote servant-leadership.
He considers being Dean of Campus Ministry a privilege. His mission at the Susie c. Holley Religious Center at Florida Memorial University is to extend the outreach of the Campus Ministry internally and externally. Internally, students, faculty and staff are part of the Susie C. Holley Religious Center university community; therefore, he seeks to provide ongoing pastoral support and care. He also leads Sunday worship. Externally, the university’s chapel is a part of the community and partners local churches to connect the campus to the community. The Chaplain also partners with the Centers for Academic Support & Retention to provide monthly workshops in spiritual and personal development.
Dr. Swain is also an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and has served as Director of the Centers for Academic Support & Retention.
