The Division of Health and Natural Sciences, in partnership with the University of Miami and Florida International University, offers a joint bachelor’s degree program in Biology and Nursing. Students completing the program of study at both institutions will receive a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida Memorial University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the partnering institution. Specific requirements for admission into this program and for transfer to the University of Miami or Florida International University exist.
As the joint degree program is an honors program at Florida Memorial University, specific criteria are required to enter and to continue in the program. Students admitted into the dual biology-nursing program must meet 3 of the following 4 academic criteria:
- Incoming Freshmen:
- 1000 or more on the SAT
- 21 or more on the ACT
- 3.3 or higher High school GPA
- No developmental courses.
- Transfer Students:
- 3.3 or higher GPA for FIU
- 3.5 or higher GPA for UM
To remain in the dual-degree program, students must earn a “C” or better in all pre-requisites courses for nursing and all science courses (biology, mathematics, chemistry, and physics) and maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA each semester for FIU and at least a 3.5 GPA each semester for UM. Pre-requisite courses cannot be repeated. If students do not meet these requirements they must change their major.
Students cannot declare themselves as Bio/Nursing majors without first meeting with the Bio/Nursing advisor. Students must fill out the application to become part of the program. Students at FMU are pre-nursing students until they transfer to UM or FIU.
The academic degree plans only apply to students in the dual degree bio/nursing programs and lists the classes students take at FMU before transferring to either UM or FIU.
