Mission of FIRST:
The Center for Faculty Innovation in Research, Service and Teaching (FIRST) is a new initiative based on the mission of the university: life-long learning, leadership, character and service and the vision of the university – to become an institution of First Choice for students seeking a rigorous education in an environment that is learner centered.
The mission of the Center is to provide holistic support to faculty across the entire spectrum of professional development: teaching, research and leadership skills with a particular emphasis on teaching and life-long learning. The Faculty Development Coordinator and The Faculty Development Advisory Committee are dedicated to helping faculty flourish as teachers, scholars, and colleagues. By cultivating a community of informed conversation about teaching and learning, while supporting activities that keep faculty current in their discipline and profession, FIRST advances Florida Memorial University’s mission and vision of providing a rigorous education in a learner centered environment and supports the university’s long term goal of developing quality academic programs.
VISION of FIRST:
A vital Faculty motivated at all career stages, who continue to learn, design, develop and teach courses, work as scholars and artists, and make fresh contributions to program and University governance.
A Faculty Development Program dedicated to promoting a university culture in which faculty can reflect, assess and conduct scholarly work.
GOALS of FIRST:
- Excellence in teaching and learning.
- Successful research and creative endeavors.
- Professional advancement.
