The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides tutoring service for Mathematics, Reading and Writing. The ARC provides tutoring services primarily to freshmen students needing basic skills support. In pre-college and college-level courses; however, the ARC is open to all students. Tutoring supplements classroom instruction and creates more time on task for students via, tutoring, study halls and repeating classroom lessons. The ARC is a place for study and improving classroom skills. Tutoring is provided through staff and trained peer tutors.
The ARC is staffed by a Coordinator who oversees and supports student tutors who are trained to build relationships with clients and to help students seeking assistance to gain confidence while refining their skills in Mathematics, Reading and Writing. Tutors also partner with classroom teachers to reinforce lessons. Students in pre-college courses are required to attend a minimum of 30 hours per semester. CASR partners with all three schools to hire upper division students who are knowledgeable, trustworthy and friendly.
Tutoring services are free and the lab hours (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) are adjusted to accommodate students on weekends and during mid-term and final examination periods. Students may consult the ARC calendar for such dates. If you have questions, please contact the Coordinator at 305-626-3655. The ARC is located in Rooms 102 and 116 of Sarah A. Blocker Hall.
