Exploring/Undeclared Students

Not sure about what you want to do? Don’t worry. Your uncertainty about selecting an academic program at this time is not unusual. Many students enter college undecided about which major to pursue to help prepare them for a career after graduation. As an Exploring/Undeclared student, we encourage you to make full use of the available academic and student support resources to assist you with exploring your academic and career options.

Students are required by the University to declare a major by the end of the sophomore year. During your Freshman Year, the Center for Academic Advisement will assist you with your major selection process. We provide workshops to help you explore career options, strengthen your academic skills, and assist you in selecting learning opportunities best suited to your interests to enhance your academic experience.

Steps to Declaring Your Major

1.Contact the Center for Academic Advisement to set up an initial appointment to help you choose a major that reflects your career and personal goals. During your appointment, a review of your unofficial transcript (available in IQWEB) will be evaluated to create your personalized Academic Degree Plan.

2.Complete the online career interest inventory at Florida Choices Planner. Discuss results from the interest inventory.

3.Explore career options in the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

4.Schedule appointment with Faculty Advisors in area of interest to discuss career and degree requirements.

5.Complete a Major Declaration/Change of Major Form to officially change or declare your chosen major at Florida Memorial University. You will then be assigned to a Faculty Advisor in your major, who will monitor your academic progress towards degree completion.
