National Intercollegiate Flying Association
The 2011 National Intercollegiate Flying Association Region IX competition was held November 4 – 13 at the Florida Institute of Technology in Daytona Beach, FL. This region includes aviation powerhouses such as Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida Institute of Technology, Auburn University, Miami Dade College, Broward College and Jacksonville University. The students were evaluated in activities such as landing accuracy, flight planning, navigation and ground trainer flight precision.
The FMU Flying Lions were awarded the 2012 Red Baron Award the Computer Accuracy Trophy. Duane Thomas finished 7th in the Aircraft Recognition Competition.
