The Testing Center, organized under Academic Affairs offers testing services to its faculty, staff and student body as well as the Florida community. The Center provides information pertaining to all tests and regularly administers a variety of tests (See specific test related procedures) throughout the entire year.
The Florida Statutes require that first-time College, degree-seeking students be tested for reading, English, and mathematics before they register for courses.
In order to provide more effective educational services for students, Florida Memorial University uses ACCUPLACER, a product of the College Board, to administer the College Placement Test (CPT). ACCUPLACER is a computer-adaptive testing program delivered over the Internet. This test will help the University to identify academic strengths and weaknesses in reading, English, and mathematics. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with the student’s academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors to determine the course selections.
All students entering Florida Memorial University must take the CPT if (1) they are entering college for the first time, or (2) did not meet the required ACT/SAT scores, or (3) have scores that are more than one year old which have not been used for course placement decisions.
Students may be exempt from the CPT or parts of the CPT if they are (1) a transfer student, or (2) have SAT scores of 440 (Mathematics), and 420 (English); or a composite ACT score of 19. A student with an ACT score of 19–20 will place in English 101. A student with an ACT score of 21+ will place in English 102.
There is no fee to take the CPT. Additional information is available from the links below:
