(NATIONAL TESTS)

American College Testing (ACT)

The ACT (or SAT) scores should be submitted for admission to Florida Memorial University. These scores are used for advisement and placement purposes only. Students with a composite ACT score of 16 may be exempted from taking the Computerized Placement Test (CPT) at Florida Memorial University.

In order to take the ACT, the student must register with the national testing company by a specified deadline date along with the appropriate registration fee. Students may apply for a fee waiver through their high schools. Under certain conditions, registration may be done by telephone. Late registration is available with an additional late fee. Standby registration on the day of the test is not allowed.

Interested persons may obtain additional information from the Testing Center. ACT is administered on campus. (ACT)

SAT (Formerly called Scholastic Assessment Tests)

The SAT (or ACT) scores must be submitted for admission to Florida Memorial University. These scores are used for advisement and placement purposes only. Students with a score of 440 (Mathematics) and 420 (English) may be exempted from taking the CPT at Florida Memorial University.

In order to take the SAT, the student must register with the national testing company by a specified deadline date along with the appropriate registration fee. Students may apply for a fee waiver through their high schools. Under certain conditions, registration may be done by telephone. Late registration is available with an additional late fee. Standby registration on the day of the test is also available with an additional fee depending on the availability of test materials, facilities and staff.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College Level Examination Program is a system of credit by examination sponsored by the College Board. CLEP offers students a method of earning college credit for subject matter already learned. These exams, developed by college faculty nationwide, reflect material usually covered during introductory coursework. It measures the mastery of college-level, introductory course content in a wide range disciplines. The test are comprehensive and examine the student’s understanding and breadth of the subject matter. The CLEP is comprised of the following subject areas – Composition and Literature, Foreign Languages, History and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Business.

Florida Memorial University accepts and award credits for the following CLEP Courses:

Dental Admission Testing Program (DAT)

The DAT is provided for individuals seeking admission to dental school.

To register, the student must submit an application form along with the appropriate fee (certified check or money order only) to the national office by a specified deadline date. Walk-in testing is allowed for Saturday administrations only and is not allowed for Ad-Hoc or religious test centers and a few regular test centers. A candidate can apply and retake the test as many times as the candidate wishes. Fee waivers are available and must be requested in writing by the test candidate.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

The GMAT is provided for Business Majors and other individuals seeking enrollment in a graduate School of Business. The GMAT is administered only as a computer-adaptive test. (CAT)

To register, the student must submit an application along with the appropriate fee (check or money order) to the national testing company. Allow two to four weeks for processing and delivery. Once you have received your voucher, you may call to schedule an appointment to take the test. You may also register by telephone (using Visa, Master Card, or American Express). GMAT policy does not allow for test fees to be waived.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The GRE is provided for the convenience of Liberal Arts Majors and others seeking admission to graduate school. The GRE is administered only as a computer adaptive
Test. (CAT)

In order to register, the student must submit a completed application along with an appropriate testing fee to the national office by a specified deadline date. The GRE Board provides a fee waiver service for students who meet the conditions of eligibility. A computerized version of the GRE General Test is also available.

Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

The LSAT is provided for individuals seeking admission to law school.

To register, the student must submit an application to the national office along with the appropriate testing fee by a specified deadline date. Under certain conditions, this fee may be waived. Late registration is available with an additional fee. Standby registration is not available.

Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

The MCAT is provided for individuals seeking admission to medical school.

To register, the student must submit the Candidate Information Folder, the signed Identification Card with a current representative passport-type photograph attached, along with the appropriate fee to the national office by a specified deadline date. Candidates are encouraged to take the MCAT about 18 months before they plan to enter medical school. Only those persons planning to apply to a health professions school will be permitted to take the test, however, others may be approved by submitting a written request stating the reason(s) for wanting to take the MCAT. Such requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Other requirements prevail if you have attended three or more MCAT administrations. Late registration is available with an additional fee. Standby registration is not available. Individuals with extreme financial limitation may apply for the MCAT Fee Reduction Program.

Optometry Admission Test (OAT)

The OAT is provided for individuals seeking admission to optometry school. All schools and colleges of optometry in the United States and Canada require the OAT.

To register, the student must submit an application to the national office along with the appropriate testing fee (money order or certified check only) by a specified date. Late registration and walk-ins are allowed with additional fees. Candidates may apply and retake the test an unlimited number of times. Fee waivers are available and must be requested in writing by the test candidates.

Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT)

The PCAT is provided for individuals seeking admission to pharmacy school.

To register, the student must submit an application to the national office along with the appropriate testing fee (money order only) by a specified date. There is no fee waiver available. Late registration and test standby are available with the appropriate fees (money order only).

Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers
(PRAXIS Series)
(Formerly called National Teachers Exam (NTE).

The Praxis examinations provide measures of academic achievements and proficiencies for students entering a college or provisional teacher preparation programs and for individuals in professional areas. A passing score is required in some states. PRAXIS is not required in the state of Florida; however, it may be used to satisfy certain requirements for Florida Teacher Certification.

In order to register, the student must submit a completed application along with the appropriate testing fees to the national office by a specified deadline date. A limited number of fee waivers are available for students who meet the conditions of eligibility.

Late registration is available. Standby registration on the testing day is available with an appropriate fee. A computerized version of some of the test parts is also available.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

TOEFL is administered to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English to meet admission requirements by more than 2,400 colleges and universities in the U.S.A. and Canada. TOEFL is also used by institutions in other countries where English is the medium of instruction and by many government agencies, scholarship programs,and licensing/ certification agencies to evaluate English proficiency. TOEFL is administered only as a computer-adaptive test (CAT)

For admission to Florida Memorial University, proficiency in English must be established by applicants whose native language is not English. Proficiency may be demonstrated with a satisfactory TOEFL score of 60.

An application must be submitted along with the appropriate testing fee to the national office by a specified deadline date in order to register. There is no fee waiver available.

Test of Spoken English (TSE)

The TSE is administered to evaluate the spoken English of those whose native language is not English to meet admission requirements by more than 2,400 colleges and universities in the U.S.A. and Canada. Examinees will be able to demonstrate how well they speak English. Examinees will be asked questions by an interviewer on tape. The examinee answers will be recorded on tape.

This test is not required for admission to Florida Memorial University.

An application must be submitted along with the appropriate testing fee to the National office by a specified deadline date in order to register. There is no fee waiver available. Neither late registration nor day-of-test standby registration is available.

Veterinary College Admission Test (VCAT)

The VCAT is provided for individuals seeking admission to Colleges of veterinary medicine.

To register, the student must submit an application to the national office along with the appropriate testing fee (money order only) by a specified date. There is no fee waiver available.
Late registration and test standby are available with the appropriate fees (money order only).
