CREDIT FOR LIFE EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY (CLEO)
The CLEO program, offered through the Division of Extension and Continuing Education, offers students academic credit for life and work experience. The program's policies and practices are consistent with the Commission on College's Criteria for Accreditation, which ensures that the quality of credited work is consistent with that required for students attending Florida Memorial University. Moreover, it provides a structured link between an individual's life experiences and university level requirement that reflect the acquisition of knowledge outside the traditional classroom.
CLEO is an academic support tool utilized by the university to codify a student's learned experience in a way that is applicable to identified courses of study and learning, thus enabling students to receive academic credit for experiences obtained in "non-academic" settings.
Requirements
The student is responsible for submitting a Portfolio. The Portfolio allows each student to present applicable research and practical experiences which has been acquired through a non-academic setting while correlating these activities with theory-based knowledge gained in the classroom. To qualify for CLEO credits, the potential student must have a minimum of five years of verifiable managerial experience that is applicable in their field of study. Students are encouraged to consult with the CLEO program coordinator for additional requirements, schedules, and to obtain a portfolio handbook. Prior to submitting the CLEO portfolio, the student must have completed at least fifteen (15) semester hours at Florida Memorial University.
Finally, all CLEO participants must be evaluated and confirmed by a review committee to assure that a student's portfolio will be objectively measured and evaluated in terms of comparability and applicability to content and level of the accredited status of the institution. Please note that credits awarded through the CLEO program are not transferable. For more information, please contact Ms. Casandra Stroy at 305-626-3678 or e-mail stroy@fmuniv.edu
