UNIVERSAL ORLANDO REVEALS HARRY POTTER DETAILS
The new Harry Potter area opening at Universal Orlando Resort this summer will allow fans to ride the Hogwarts Express train and experience the British countryside just as the characters did in the book and movie series. According to a news release Friday from Universal Orlando Resort, guests will appear to magically pass through a brick wall and board a train with steam and a whistle.
NO SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED AFTER FLORIDA-BOUND PLANE ABORTS TAKEOFF IN PHILADELPHIA
US Airways Flight 1702 was heading to Fort Lauderdale when its nose gear collapsed during takeoff, leaving the plane crippled on the runway. The crew deployed the plane’s emergency slides for the passengers to disembark. The Airbus A320 jet was carrying 149 passengers and five crew members.
FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES 135TH ANNIVERSARY
The only historically black college in South Florida traces its roots to two schools founded in the late 19th century. The schools eventually merged, and the university moved from St. Augustine to Miami Gardens in 1968. Florida Memorial named Roslyn Clark Artis as its first woman president earlier this month.
EX-PARTNER OF FLORIDA PONZI SCHEMER TO PLEAD GUILTY
A former law partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein is scheduled to plead guilty next month to charges that he violated federal campaign contribution laws. The attorney for 52-year-old Russell Adler confirmed that Adler will enter a guilty plea at a hearing set April 4 in Fort Lauderdale federal court.
22 WWII VETERANS FROM FLORIDA HONORED BY FRANCE
Twenty-two veterans from Florida are being honored with France’s highest distinction for fighting alongside the country during World War II. The French Consulate will award the veterans the insignia of the “Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honor” on Friday during a ceremony at the Holly Hill City Hall. The Legion was founded in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.
